The problem: it sells out before you even notice
The PortaSplit is one of those products that simply vanishes. You refresh the page, it says 'in stock', and by the time you reach checkout it's gone again. During a heatwave restocks are small, unpredictable and last minutes. Chasing them by hand is impossible unless you spend all day staring at tabs — and even then you're usually too late. I lived this myself last summer, and it struck me as absurd that there was no simple way to just be told.
Why I built it instead of refreshing pages
I'm a developer, so instead of hammering F5 I did the thing I actually know how to do: I built a small system that checks the retailers for me every few minutes, day and night. At first it was just for me. Then it hit me that plenty of other people were in the same boat, and since the tracker already worked, sharing it made total sense. That's how AircoAlert started — the tool I wish had existed.
How it works
I track the retailers that genuinely sell the PortaSplit in real time — 337 retail points across 25 retailers in Spain, France, the UK and the Netherlands — checking availability every few minutes. The dashboard is public and free: anyone can see the stock status without paying a cent. If you also want a nudge, you activate a one-off alert and I email you the moment I detect a restock, with the retailer, direct link and price. In France and Spain I go all the way down to individual store level, not just the national status.
Independent, no strings
I don't work for Midea or any of the retailers I track, and they don't pay me — most don't even know I exist. AircoAlert is a fully independent project. Some links are affiliate links that may earn me a small commission at no cost to you, but that never changes what I show or the order retailers appear in: they're sorted by availability and price, never by what pays me. I'd rather tell you plainly than fake a neutrality that isn't there.
Transparency by default
Two rules I won't break. First: stock is visible for free, to everyone, with no account and no gimmick. Second: if you pay, it's a one-time, honest payment from £4.90 for a specific alert — never a subscription that quietly renews, never fine print designed to make you forget to cancel. I'm selling a few minutes' head start on a dashboard that's already public, not information I'm deliberately hiding. The day that stops being true, stop using me.
Want me to tell you too?
Check stock free on the dashboard, or activate an alert from £4.90 and I'll email you the moment it's back in stock.
